Wicklow Rugby Football Club

In the early years of Wicklow RFC one of the problems encountered was to find a home for its games. In the mid 1970’s Wicklow settled at Ashtown lane after having played at Ballygonnel, Kilpoole, Tinakilly, Newrath, Killoughter, The Beehive, Coolbeg, Rosannagh, Ballybla & Glenealy.

In the early years the players could best be described as a pretty mixed bunch. The club was lucky however in have very good players in key positions.

Although the backbone of the team was formed by players familiar to the game, the club is deeply indebted to those players whose rugby careers began with Wicklow.

New Players:
Wicklow Rugby Club fields three adult sides and are always looking for new players of any level, including beginners.

Why not join us on Tuesdays & Fridays at 7.00pm for training, or contact Stephen Clarke on 087 205 1659 for further information.

Wicklow Sailing Club:
Founded in 1950 the club currently has over three hundred members, racing in several classes including cruisers, wayfarers, 420's, lasers, toppers and mirrors.

Racing for cruisers during the summer season is every Wednesday and Sunday, while racing for dinghy's is held every Saturday afternoon. Our cruising sailors usually head to Porthmadog in July and we often take in other trips along the Irish coast.

We provide Junior Training during the month of July and/or August for 10 years old and up.

Wicklow Sailing Club is an I.S.A accredited training centre for junior training levels 1 to 5 and also powerboat training.

Our sailing visitors are always welcome to use the Clubhouse and it's facilities. We have a very friendly reputation on Irelands East Coast and love to hear tales of sailing derring do. The bar is open every night (except Mon) in the summer (Jun/Jul/Aug) and Thursday to Sunday in the winter.

Adequate berthing is available on the quayside (East pier) or only by prior arrangement on swing moorings.

Wicklow is a busy commercial port, with often 1 or more large ships berthed in the river and an active whelk fishing fleet, so berthing space up river can be a problem.

Our clubhouse is located on the South Quay of Wicklow harbour, adjacent to the RNLI station.

Woodenbridge Golf Club was described as "Ireland's Augusta" by the legendary Joe Carr, who added that "Woodenbridge is the most scenic golf course in Ireland, a hidden gem"

Hole by Hole Guide

The layout makes the best possible use of the course's stunning natural features, with the Avoca and Aughrim rivers coming into play on at least 10 holes, most notably on the spectacular, but dangerous par 3 holes -- the 8th, the 11th and the 17th -- and on the magnificent par 5 18th which begs the brave to flirt with danger from the tee by demanding a nerve-ripping drive across the water.

The scorecard can truly take shape over the closing holes!

Some of the finer holes also include a 448 yard dog-leg par 4 at the 6th, the toughest hole on the course.

Every hole providing unique challenges for players of all handicaps.
